Carn teen continues film making

A BUDDING young Carn
filmmaker joined 11 others at a documentary summer
school aimed at inspiring young people in the run up
to the 2012 Olympic Games.
Marie Matthews joined other young people from
Lisburn, Belfast, Ballymena, Greenisland and Derry
to make a sports-themed television programme.
Industry professionals who lent support to the
week-long school last week included Brian Henry
Martin, Doubleband Films and Paul Reilly, reporter
for ITV Daybreak Northern Ireland.
The filmmaking project was jointly co-ordinated by
Cinemagic and Northern Visions. It was part of a
series of film activities entitled ‘Now & Then: Our
Journey’. The programme is part of an initiative led
by Northern Ireland Screen for the Legacy Trust UK
Connections Programme. |

Marilyn Hyndman of
Northern Visions said: “We are delighted to part to
support young people to gain skills in digital
media. This is a wonderful opportunity to try out
filmmaking in a supportive environment and to
contribute to Northern Ireland’s celebration of the
2012 Olympics.
Cinemagic ceo Joan Burney Keatings, added: “The aim
of ‘Now and Then - Our Journey’ is to offer
fun-filled, educational events for young people, to
develop their creative skills and to celebrate the
various themes around the Olympics. The summer
television documentary school will give young people
an insight to the filmmaking process and will focus
on areas such as camera, sound, interviewing and
directing.” |
