Honours for Donegal Civil Defence volunteers 26.11.14

CIVIL Defence volunteers from Co Donegal have been honoured with long service medals by the Government.
The awards were presented in recognition of 30 and 40 years' service in the organisation.
The Donegal volunteers were among almost 300 Civil Defence volunteers from across Ireland to be honoured with long service medals.
Donegal recipients included Joe Breslin, Mountcharles, (30yrs), James Dolan, Stranorlar, (40yrs); Anne Marie Monagle, Glengad, (30yrs), Hugo Boyle, Carrigart, (30yrs), Denis Gallagher, Burt, (30Yrs), John Quinn, Ballybofey, (30yrs), Rose McNamee, Letterkenny, (40yrs), Jackie McCrudden, Burt, (30yrs), Ita Wilkie, Letterkenny, (30yrs) and Edel Flynn, Ballybofey, Civil Defence Officer (30yrs).
The local volunteers were presented with their medals at Dublin Castle on Friday by Minister of State at Defence, Paul Kehoe T.D.
Mr Kehoe said he was delighted to honour so many volunteers who had given invaluable service to their communities. He pledged that the Government would continue to support the organisation in its work.

Meanwhile, Donegal County Council cathaoirleach Cllr John Campbell added: "The contribution that each and every one of these volunteers makes to their community and to their county is outstanding. They truly epitomise what volunteering is all about and I am delighted that their dedication and commitment to keeping their communities safe has been acknowledged with these long service awards."
