Gloves are on for boxing gala 29.03.10

THE gloves will be well and truly ON as Inishowen gets set for a gala week of boxing, which will see many local fighters slug it out for glory.
Carndonagh Boxing Club presents a major boxing tournament in the Malin Hotel this Thursday, April 1, with the first fight getting underway at 8.30pm.
Some great bouts are in store with the comeback fight of 80kg contender, Danny ‘Killer’ Clarke, and also making a comeback will be Colm ‘Crusher’ Gallagher at 72kg.
After a year out, Michael McLaughlin (Owens) will also make his return to the ring. His last fight was a defeat in Dublin last year against John Joe Joyce, who is the current National Senior Champion.
Meanwhile a number of young local fighters, have qualified for the National Finals in Dublin this weekend.
Illies Golden Gloves boxers, John Cassidy and Bobby Ivers are in action at the National Stadium tomorrow night.
Fifteen-year-old Rosemary Doherty competes in the Irish Girl’s final on Saturday night, when she hopes to punch her way to becoming the first girl from Carn to win a national boxing title.
Leigh Moran (Illies GG) and Conor Bradley (St. Brigid’s) are also in action on the big stage this Saturday.
While Lenore Harkin (16) becomes the first Clonmany girl to contest an All-Ireland final this weekend.
There are also a group of young Inishowen punchers in action at the Ulster Finals in Strabane on Sunday afternoon.
Not to be outboxed, Buncrana ABC are staging a boxing spectacular at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel on Thursday, April 8.
The second annual Dr. Denis McLaughlin Memorial Tournament will stage fourteen fights during an evening in Buncrana next month, which boxing fans will not want to miss.
Dr. Denis McLaughlin was the popular Buncrana ABC club doctor for many years before his death, at the age of 85, in February 2009.
Local girls from Studio 47 Dance Academy will provide some dazzling entertainment at the event, which attracted a crowd of 500 last year.
