Simple Living Syndicate comes to Inishowen 24.02.09

Brenda and Janine bring cheer to credit crunch

INISHOWEN is about to be cheered up from the misery of the credit crunch as two local business women bring an exciting new shopping experience to the peninsula.
The Simple Living Syndicate is the brainchild of Brenda Tierney Joyce from Buncrana and Janine Strong from Malin. The two women are behind the Simple Living Fair, a concept offering a unique sales platform to local small businesses. They are keen to encourage local and ethical shopping, showcase the work of the North West's creative community while discovering new and exciting talents.
Brenda and Janine set up the Simple Living Syndicate last year with the vision of creating an environment to enable small traders sell their products at fairs under one roof and without the expense of overheads and retail rents. They believe they can contribute towards a healthier environment through advocating products that neither harm the environment nor the people making them; by reducing business people's carbon footprint and by helping to promote the 'buy local' philosophy.

“The difference between our fairs and a regular high street is that the products you will buy will be fresh, contemporary and exciting - not mass produced, throwaway items. But they will also be very affordable, which is key." Brenda runs her own design craft business, Ruby Rose Creative Services, after 15 years working in design both in Ireland and Britain.
Janine is a well-known home baker who now runs Inishowen Home Baking giving a modern twist to a lot of classic Irish recipes.
They plan to run regular fairs throughout Inishowen and the North West featuring the best of what small local businesses can offer. The fairs will include free workshops and seminars on many topics ranging from organic vegetables to jewellery-making.
The first Simple Living Fair will be held in the Colgan Hall, Carndonagh, on Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 2pm to 5pm and admission is free.
“We chose the Colgan Hall as our first venue because it is such a unique and beautiful hall, with great character and history,” said Janine. “We feel it will add even more atmosphere to our innovative event." The syndicate aims to have around 20 small businesses exhibiting on the day with live music, workshops and entertainment for all the family. There will be a huge variety of products on show and it promises to be an eclectic and exciting day out. If you would like to trade at the fair or want more information, email Brenda and Janine at  simpleliving09@gmail.com .
