Q.  I would like to vote in the upcoming referendum on the EU Treaty of Lisbon but I have checked the Register of Electors and I am not on it. Can I still register to vote?

06.05.08

In order to vote in a referendum, you must be registered. To be included in the Register you must be at least 18 years of age on that day. Also, you must have been ordinarily resident in the State on 1 September 2007. To vote in a referendum you must be a citizen of Ireland.

If you are not on the published Register, you can still apply for inclusion in a supplement to the Register. Application forms for this are available from Garda stations, public libraries and local authority offices. You can view the Register at these locations and online at  www.checktheregister.ie . If you are already on the Register of Electors but have now moved to another area, you can apply for inclusion in the supplement at your new address. Your name will be deleted from the original Register. Your application must be received by your local authority at least 15 working days before polling day.
