Gardai are not
seeking anyone else in connection with the tragic
deaths of a mother and daughter in Letterkenny.
Post mortem examinations were carried out yesterday
on the bodies of Caitríona Innes, 26, and her
daughter Katelyn, 7.
The results of toxicology tests on Katelyn will not
be known for five to six weeks.
The two bodies were discovered on Tuesday at their
semi-detached home at Whitethorn Close, a housing
estate in Gortlee, Letterkenny, after concerns were
raised that they had not been seen since Sunday.
Katelyn, who made her Holy Communion on Saturday,
did not catch the school bus on Monday or Tuesday.
She was a pupil at Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál National
School. Bus driver Cathal McGettigan described her
as a "lovely wee girl" and said her mother, who
worked at McNutt's Tweed in Downings, was very
friendly and always said hello when she saw him.
Donegal election candidate and local GP, Dr. Jim
McDaid pronounced Ms. Innes and her daughter dead at
the scene.
Assistant State Pathologist Dr. Michael Curtis
carried out preliminary postmortems on Tuesday night
and full postmortem examinations at Letterkenny
Hospital yesterday.
Ms Innes, a single mother, was originally from
Bundoran but had lived in Letterkenny for four
years.
Investigating Gardai say they won't be making the
post mortem results known for operational reasons
but confirmed they are not looking for anyone else
in relation to the deaths.
Meanwhile, the HSE is offering counselling and
support to the children of Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal and
to the family and friends of the deceased.
This latest tragedy to hit Donegal comes less than a
month after four members of the Dunne family
including Ciara Dunne from Burt, were found dead at
their home in County Wexford.
