The €1.1m Three
Glens Group Water Scheme in the Glenagiveney area of
east Inishowen got underway this week. The
long-awaited scheme recently received top-up funding
of €332,920 from the Department of Rural and
Gaeltacht Affairs.
Locally based election candidate Cecilia Keaveney
welcomed the development. "I am delighted that I was
invited to attend the arrival of materials for the
start of the Three Glens Group Water Scheme.
I have been working with residents in this area for
some time to get this scheme to this stage and it
has evolved greatly during this time having
originally started with Glenagiveney, then
Meenletterbale and Mossyglen. Finally Falmore was
added following a recommendation by Donegal County
Council due to the necessity of the reservoir."
Three Glens Group Water Scheme promoter, Liam
McDermott said the local residents were delighted
with the progress.
"We, the residents of the greater Glenagiveney area
have been working with Cecilia Keaveney to get this
scheme for some time. In fact when we started out on
this project with her, we were quoted a cost of
€7,500 but it has evolved greatly from there.
"Cecilia facilitated several meetings for us with
Mr. Eamon O Cuiv, so that we could put our case
forward to be included in the CLAR programme.
We know just how hard Cecilia has worked to get the
CLAR programme extended into as many areas in
Inishowen as possible. We are very grateful to her
that she did so and it has been very much a team
effort of the hardworking local committee since
1998."
The Moville-based Fianna Fail candidate said the
extension of the CLAR programme to more areas in
Inishowen "should not be underestimated".
"Projects which would not otherwise be financially
viable are being delivered. This is definitely one
of the most creative and successful programmes
introduced by this Government in delivering improved
services to rural Ireland," she said.
