'Don't be cheerleader senators' SF tells FF 14.09.07

Donegal's Sinn Féin senator yesterday urged the two Fianna Fáil senators not to be "cheerleaders" for the Government but to put the needs of the county first.
Senator Pearse Doherty. Senator Pearse Doherty made his call on the day he made history by becoming his party's first Seanad member. He joined Senators Cecilia Keaveney and Brian O'Domhnaill of Fianna Fáil as they took their seats for the first time.
The three will give Donegal its highest ever level of representation in the Upper House.
Senator Doherty said he wanted to work with Senators Keaveney and O'Domhnaill on issues of common interest and importance to Donegal.
"The question arises  whether the two Government senators will be merely
cheerleaders for the Government or will they really challenge the Government to deliver for Donegal?" he said.
"If they aren't going to take up that mantle, then it rests with me as the only Opposition senator within the Seanad from Donegal to make sure that the voices of those communities that are being left behind are heard loud and clear."
