Sinn Féin's Foyle
MLA Martina Anderson has said her party is
"the only real alternative" for Donegal voters in
Thursday's General Election.
She said Sinn Féin was ready for government and that
its priorities were a strong and vibrant economy;
strong public services and Irish re-unification.
"Sinn Féin believes that both governments have
overlooked both Derry and Donegal. Historically,
wealth creation in Ireland has been concentrated
along the Belfast - Dublin - Cork bloc," she said.
"Over 68% of the wealth created in Ireland is
located in the Belfast and Dublin areas. "Sinn Féin
has a vision of an integrated North West Region and
recently we published our vision on how we should go
about making that happen in the form of a North West
Charter."
Ms. Anderson partition had "distorted" the
political, social and economic life of Irish people,
particularly in regions such as Donegal and Derry.
"Partition - and by extension the existence of the
border - has distorted the political, social and
economic life of the people of Ireland, particularly
for the people of Derry and Donegal.
"It causes poverty - dislocating public services,
economic systems and infrastructure. That was
brought home to me very clearly on the doorsteps in
Letterkenny over recent weeks.
"The people with whom I spoke feel the gap has
widened between those with massive wealth and those
who must work long hours to house, clothe and feed
themselves and their families. For many people the
Celtic Tiger has not reached Donegal.
She said it was now time for change. "There is only
one real alternative in this General Election - Sinn
Féin. We are ready for government, North and South.
"We have a vision and a plan for a prosperous
country in which wealth is shared and where the
promise of equal rights and equal opportunities is
fulfilled for each and every person who lives on our
island.
"I would ask the people of Donegal to come out in
numbers on Thursday and vote for change in the North
East and South West constituencies by voting for
Donegal Sinn Féin's Pádraig MacLochlainn and Pearse
Doherty."
