Election candidate,
Senator Joe McHugh has said that Niall Blaney's
'scare tactics' on Fine Gael's health pledges did
nothing but highlight Fianna Fail's 'abject failure'
on health.
"Blaney is resorting to scare tactics because he has
hitched his electoral wagon to FF which has abjectly
failed the people of Donegal.
"The electorate will not be duped because they know
that despite having a clean sweep of Donegal North
East seats, FF has not delivered for Letterkenny
Hospital in ten years. Why would we believe them
now?"
Senator McHugh insisted that Fine Gael would deliver
2,300 extra hospital beds at a capital cost of
€850m. He said the extra beds would be the new
Government's "priority project" in the €2.4 billion
Acute Hospitals Sub Programme of the NDP.
"Fine Gael's bed proposal will not jeopardize any
other items in the Acute Hospitals Sub Programme of
the NDP because the NDP does not cost any of these
items.
"If additional funding is required, the FG/Lab
Government will distribute the required funds into
this sub-programme. The first stop for those funds,
if required, will be the €4.9 billion unallocated
reserve of the €184 billion National Development
Plan."
