Greencastle collision prompts safety call 10.05.07

Donegal North East Election candidate Cecilia Keaveney and her colleague Cllr. Marian McDonald have called on Donegal County Council to fix a "lethal" junction in Greencastle.

Their call comes following a two-car collision on Tuesday evening at the junction, located at Greencastle / Ballymacarthur crossroads. No-one was seriously injured in the incident.
"This junction is lethal. It is a blind junction for those experienced in using it while visitors to the area often aren't aware it's there at all," said Ms. Keaveney.

"Once motorists have stopped they then have to nudge right on to the main road from the Greencastle direction before they can clearly see if it is clear of traffic."
Donegal County Council erected a 'Stop' sign at the crossroads following
intervention by Cllr. McDonald. But Ms. Keaveney said the measure was "simply not enough".

life?" she asked. "This is too high a price to pay. Surely prevention is better than cure."
Cllr. McDonald added: "I've requested an urgent meeting with the
roads engineer of Donegal County Council to have this junction re-examined immediately. I realise that there have been measures taken previously but they must be revisited.
"As Cecilia says, we cannot wait until there is serious injury or fatalities before this happens."
