The late Robert Emmett Reid. The son of Tom and the late Astrid Reid, from Buncrana, Rob passed away on July 30th. His uncle, Thomas 'The Miller' Doherty, told InishowenNews.com yesterday that his nephew was "a friend to everyone".
"He was a good friend to everyone and was very popular. He hadn't an enemy in the world," said Thomas, a well known collector of old photos.
"It was unbelievable the number of young people who
attended the wake. Hundreds of them queued around the block to pay their respects," he said, adding that the Reid family were devastated by their loss.
Born at Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry, on March 31st, 1981, Rob lived for the first seven years of his life at the Lake of Shadows Hotel, Buncrana, which was run in the 1970s and 1980s, by his parents.
The family returned to live in the US in 1988. Rob, the youngest of the family and an employee of the NY traffic department, lived with his father in Yonkers.
The funeral was attended by his aunts, uncles and cousins from Buncrana and Kilkenny while many Buncrana people living in New York also turned out to offer their sympathies. The young man's popularity is clear from the many messages posted on his MySpace webpage. Friends in New York mourn Rob's death.
One such message reads: "Lovie, no one will ever be able to light up a room quite like you did. I will always think of you as fearless, doing everything to the fullest.
"I can't bring myself to think of you in the past tense nor to say goodbye, so I'll say so long, until we meet again...you will always remain in my heart. Love you, xox Nadia"
Rob Reid is survived by his father Tom, sister Deirdre and brothers Eamonn and Tommy.
