When Brendan Deehan set up Netserve Web Design in 1999, the internet was still a relatively new phenomenon. Over the past eight years, however, the Moville-based web design company has helped many businesses get a vital online presence.
“When I started the company in 1999, you had to explain to potential clients what a website actually was. They viewed it as a kind of experiment without realising its actual worth to their business. Nowadays, the clients come to you. They already know the value of a good website and have a fair idea about what they need.”

According to the Netserve founder, the internet still has more value for some companies than others.  “Businesses where a good website is now an absolute must include estate agents, manufacturers and firms selling goods or professional services. Whereas before they may have relied solely upon customers in their local area, a good website allows them to significantly expand their customer base.”

Deehan founded Netserve after completing an MSc in computing and information systems at the University of Ulster Magee Campus.
With a previous career spanning ten years in the corporate banking sector, he is well equipped when advising business clients. “I find my business background particularly useful in designing practical sites that fulfil each client’s business goals.”

One of his pet hates, are websites that are “all flash and little substance”. “What’s the use of a site with lots of bells and whistles that forgets its primary goal? Some are so elaborate that they forget what they’re actually supposed to be doing... selling!”
