Taoiseach's election pledge to
PARC
03.05.07
|
The Public Against
Road Carnage (PARC) group received an election
pledge from the Taoiseach yesterday.
Culdaff-based PARC chairperson, Susan Gray, told
InishowenNews.com that Mr. Ahern had written to her
saying Fianna Fail would implement the group's
proposals "without delay" if re-elected.
He wrote: "I agree with all involved in PARC that we
cannot rest on our laurels or become complacent.
"Any death on our roads is a needless death. Taking
account of the concerns raised by PARC, Fianna Fail
recognise the need to introduce compulsory drink and
drug driving for drivers involved in accidents
causing injury.
"If re-elected we will ensure that these changes are
implemented without delay."
PARC was set up in Inishowen in 2006 and already has
many branches throughout Ireland.
The group wants the Republic to follow the lead of
the North where it is PSNI policy that all drivers
involved in accidents are required to submit to a
preliminary test either at the scene or later in
hospital.
