Donegal election
candidate Cllr Pádraig MacLochlainn has been invited
to attend today's 'historic' ceremony to
re-establish the Six County Executive in the North.
And he described Sinn Féin's participation in
Government in the North as "just the start".
"In the very near future, Sinn Féin is determined to
be in government, North and South, to drive forward
the agenda for change in the lives of citizens
across this island. Government in the North is just
the start.
"The All-Ireland Ministerial Council is a hugely
important development in our agenda for change.
Tuesday's historic events at Stormont shall create
the context in which the all-Ireland institutions
can now become fully developed."
He made his comments in a joint statement with
colleague and Donegal South West candidate, Cllr.
Pearse Doherty.
It continued: "This is a hugely important
development which will fundamentally change politics
on this island. It will also allow the North West to
promote its needs and requirements as a region on
the island, as never before.
"All political parties say that they support peace
and unity but it is Sinn Féin that is delivering.
Over the past decade, we have proven our ability to
negotiate successfully.
"We have shown leadership by taking major and
sometimes difficult decisions in the national
interest. Sinn Féin has brought a new energy and a
new dynamic to Irish politics and there is a lot
more we want to deliver.
"Sinn Féin is seeking a mandate to be in government
in the South. The implementation of the all-Ireland
agenda would be hugely strengthened with Sinn Féin
Ministers working in government, North and South, at
the same time.
