"Donegal majority support nurses" 04.05.07

Sinn Féin's Donegal North East election candidate, Cllr. Pádraig MacLochlainn has urged nurses to be reassured by the "widespread support" of patients and communities throughout Donegal.

As nurses prepare for a work stoppage in Letterkenny on Tuesday, Cllr. MacLochlainn said: "Donegal Sinn Féin met with the nursing unions in Letterkenny, along with our party president, Gerry Adams, earlier this week.
"We expressed our ongoing support for the reasonable demands of fair conditions and fair wages made by the

INO and PNA.
"Over recent months, weeks and days on the canvass trail across Donegal, I can confirm that the vast majority of people are on the side of the workers.
"I am calling on the nursing unions not to become demoralised by misinformation carried by certain sections of the media.
"Key media outlets are misrepresenting nurses as somehow selfish or greedy. That is outrageous."
Donegal Sinn Fein urged the Government to resolve the issue.
"I am calling on everyone to remember that this dispute is partly about resolving a long-standing pay injustice where other less qualified workers have been getting paid more money than nurses.
"For the sake of everyone it is important that this dispute is urgently resolved. It is no longer acceptable for the Taoiseach to wipe his hands of this dispute and Sinn Féin believes the Taoiseach must become urgently involved."
