CLG Iorras would like to extend its deepest sympathies to all
those affected by the tragic events that befell the parish on Sunday
evening. The thoughts and prayers of all our members are with those
who are suffering as a result of what happened and we wish them well
as they come to terms with their grief.
The Senior and Reserves will be at home on Sunday at 1.30pm and
3.00pm in the second leg of the Intermediate Championship against
Sean MacCumhaills. The Senior team maintained the improved form they
showed against MacCumhails when they travelled to Bundoran on
Saturday evening coming away with the win. The game was played in
torrential rain and it is a credit to the lads that they put in such
a good performance. Both the Senior and Reserve teams will need to
be on top form for this weekend’s encounters, the Seniors if they
can repeat recent performances will have a great chance to advance
to the next round, the Reserves if they can play the way they did in
the second half in Ballybofey must also have a great chance of
taking their tie to a third leg. Training will be at the normal
times on Tuesday and Thursday.
The U16 boys advanced to the Northern Board Division 2 Championship
final with a hard fought win over Malin last Friday evening. Down by
5 points with only ten minutes left to play the boys were looking
likely to suffer defeat, but two goals in the space of a minute shot
them back into the lead, Malin pegged them back again and it wasn’t
until a goal for Urris in injury time that the issue was finally
decided. The lads have been short of match practice lately because
of the exams and this may account for what was a very flat
performance overall but they were able to lift themselves enough to
grab the win in the end and this will hold to them when they face
Buncrana on Sunday evening in the Inishowen final. That match gets
underway at 7.30pm in Malin, travel arrangements for the game will
be confirmed to the lads at training.
The U14 boys are still in waiting mode for other teams to finish
their fixtures before they will learn who they are drawn against in
the Inishowen ‘B’ competition and the County Championship. The lads
will continue training on Wednesday evening at 7.00pm, the U13 boys
will be in action shortly and those lads who are intending to play
for the U13s are asked to come to the U14 training from this week
on.
The U14 girls must also continue to wait patiently for news of their
opponents, training will continue and hopefully a fixture will be
confirmed shortly.
The U16 girl’s match was cancelled on Monday night because of the
awful tragedy that has befallen the parish and this will be
rearranged in the coming weeks.
The U12 boys match against Carndonagh is also cancelled this week
and will be rearranged shortly, the boy’s should check the bulletin
for news of training and matches or contact David if they are
unsure.
The U10’s will be playing in a blitz in Buncrana next Saturday
morning; the bus will leave from Straid at 10.15am, with action
getting underway in Buncrana at 11.00am. The boys and girls will
train this week on Wednesday evening at 5.00pm.
The U8 boys and girl’s parents should check with, Sandra, Susan or
Marie if they are unsure of training arrangements for the coming
week.
There was no winner of the Match and Win jackpot drawn on July 8.
The years drawn were 1962, 1965, 1979 and 1983, the Jackpot has now

2. Bernard Toland, Tornabratley
3. Kathleen Friel, Dunaff
