Service swerves to miss rally 03.06.11

AN Inishowen Graveyard Sunday will become a Graveyard Saturday evening in a bid to avoid a clash with the Donegal International Rally later this month.
Parish priest Fr. Neil McGoldrick took the unusual step of moving the annual Fahan ceremony to ensure the safety of those visiting the cemetery with a huge number of vehicles expected on the roads around Buncrana.
Originally scheduled for Sunday, June 19, the blessing at Fahan Graveyard will now take place the night before, on Saturday, June 18 next.
The move has met with approval among parishioners in the area as a clash with the rally could have put pedestrians in jeopardy along the roadside.
Graveyard Sunday in nearby Burt has often clashed with Donegal Championship games and the International Rally and the increased traffic volumes have often proved hazardous for those attending.
The dates and times for Burt and Inch remain the same – Burt: Sunday, June 26 at 3pm; Inch: Sunday, June 26 at 6pm.
