CARNDONAGH'S Good
Friday Players are once again rehearsing for a
re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross following
a two-year absence. The poignant event at the Church
of the Sacred Heart tomorrow night will be
dramatised by many of the original cast members as
well as some new faces.
The original director and founder of the pageant,
Margaret O'Kane said she was delighted to have the
encouragement and support of Carndonagh parish
priest, Fr Con McLaughlin, as well as "such a fine
cast and crew to work with".
"Although a few of the cast and crew have a
background in drama the majority don’t. They are
people who live in the area and who have volunteered
to be part of this extraordinary story." New members
who are joining the original cast include Ronan
Doherty as the Nazarene, Karen Kelly as Mary of
Magdala, Connell McGrenra as Pilate and Patrick
Taite as John, the beloved disciple. Francis
McLaughlin, Ann Diver, Martina McLaughlin, Hilda
O’Connor, Mary Gillen, JP Bradley, Peter Donegan,
Conal Taite, Helen Doherty and Lisa McLaughlin are
also newcomers.
The original cast include Carmel McGrena as Mary the
Mother of Jesus, Colm Kelly, Gabriel Duffy, Mary
Doherty (S), Finian Coyne, Gemma Doherty (S), Ann
Doherty, Bernadette McElhinney and Teresa McLaughlin
(B) who is doing the floral décor as well as being a
member of the cast. Dermot Coyle is back again as
Simon of Cyrene, with Kevin Ferguson, Anthony Burke,
Brian Breslin and Dominic Taite as the soldiers.
Meanwhile, Pauline Loftus is this year's Veronica.
Esther Porter is back in her role as wardrobe
mistress as "nobody does it better!" Danielle Kelly
is the soloist and a woman of Jerusalem while the
"ever faithful" Maire Mathews and Cormac Skinnader
are the narrators who bring it all to life.
Margaret O’Kane gave special mention to Chris Taite,
"the master craftsman who designed and restructured
the wonderful life size crosses used in the drama".
"The stations have become an emotional journey for
cast and congregation alike. Everyone is welcome to
walk the way of the cross." The event will be held
on Good Friday night at 8pm. |
