Motor stars rev up for Inishowen rally 06.10.11

THE country's top rally drivers will arrive in Inishowen tomorrow for round nine of the Dunlop National Rally Championship.
Festivities rev up with a ceremonial start in the Square, Moville, at 8pm on Friday night offering a great opportunity for fans to meet the top 20 competitors and the local stars along with their cars before the real action starts on Saturday morning.
The event consists of three individual stages being used three times each, all within a 20-mile radius of the service area in the Bailey car park, Redcastle.
The rally has attracted a high quality entry with many of Ireland’s star drivers including number 1 seed, 2010 Harvest Rally winner and 2011 Irish Group N Champion Gary Jennings in a Subaru Impreza World Rally Car and Monaghan's Mark 2 Ford Escort star Gary McPhillips.
The first of the locals will be 2011 British Citroen Trophy runner-up, Muff's Joseph McGonigle, who, fresh from an 8th overall finish in last weekend’s Cork 20 International Rally, will be hoping for a similar result here in his Citroen C2R2 Max.
Top rally drivers will arrive in Inishowen.
Next up, at 42 are class 11 frontrunners, Redcastle's Terry McGonagle and navigator Mark Curran in their 1600cc Honda Civic Type R. Carndonagh driver Paddy Walker and navigator John Sweeney start at 65 just ahead of another Carndonagh crew, JP Quigley and Emmett Kelly.
Derek and Edward McGonagle start at 79 in their distinctive yellow Mark 2 Escort with Quigley’s Point crews Garrett McMonagle and James Logue and Hugh Martin Toye and John Farren just behind in their Honda Civic Type R's.
