Buncrana store in €30,000 hospice

A BUNCRANA supermarket
aims to help raise a whopping €30,000 for the
Donegal Hospice between now and October.
Kavanagh's SuperValu will join sister stores in
Ballybofey, Donegal Town and Dungloe in giving 5c to
the hospice for every Real Rewards transaction made
from May 6 to October 22, 2011. It costs an
estimated €3m to run the hospice every year. The HSE
pays 80% of the running costs but 20% (€600,000)
must be raised by the hospice committee through
fundraising.
The SuperValu campaign is called "Help Us to Help
Others" and was recently launched with a special
appearance by TV3 showbiz reporter Noel Cunningham
Managing director of Kavanagh's SuperValu, Noel
Kavanagh said his team were delighted to support the
Donegal Hospice's "great work".
"With our four stores located in the four corners of
Donegal we are well connected with members of the
local community and so believe we were well placed
to maximize our fundraising potential.
"We are committing to raising a minimum of €30,000
for the Donegal Hospice to aid them in their great
work. It is a dual campaign where our Real Rewards
scheme along with our dedicated staff will fundraise
over the next six months." |

Kavanagh's SuperValu
employs 350 people throughout Co Donegal. Other
planned fundraising events include a climb of Mount
Errigal, a charity football match with Highland
Radio, bag packs, pub quiz, car washes and a
flagship fun run and walk event in October.
The Donegal Hospice opened in Knocknamona,
Letterkenny, in 2003 and is now a well-established
high quality service for people in Co Donegal who
require palliative and terminal care. The Health
Service Executive (HSE) is responsible for the
day-to-day running of the hospice, and the hospice
support movement works in partnership with the HSE.
The support group, Donegal Hospice Ltd, is
responsible for providing up to 20% of the annual
running cost of the facility and this is "a
challenge every year".
Donegal Hospice chairperson, Grace Boyle said: "The
hospice committee must raise up to €600,000 every
year so this campaign launched by Kavanagh's
SuperValu will be invaluable in helping us reach
that target.
"They are giving so much back to Donegal and they
are helping us raise €30,000 and I'd really like to
