'Marco Polo' visits Lough Foyle 12.07.12

AFTER hosting the 65ft Clipper yachts, Greencastle is now set to welcome two boats ten times the size when cruise ships 'Marco Polo' and 'Prinsendam' visit this coming Saturday and Monday. The two ships will each be carrying 800 passengers and 400 crew.
Derry Visitor & Convention Bureau's Aoife Thomas said “We are delighted to welcome 2400 passengers and crew to enjoy the attractions, culture and history and of course the people of the North West region."
The 'Marco Polo' cruise ship is due to visit Greencastle on Saturday.
When the ships drop anchor at Greencastle passengers will be welcomed onshore by Derry tourist information staff and performances by the McKinney Academy of Dance. They will then have the option of exploring Inishowen, the Walled City of Derry or the Giant’s Causeway, among other itinerary choices.
Passengers and crew who prefer to take in the sights and sounds of City of Culture 2013 at their own leisurely pace can take a complimentary shuttle bus to Derry.
The Cruise North West Initiative's remit is to attract cruise business to the region and is a partnership between Derry City Council, Derry Visitor & Convention Bureau, Foyle Port and the Loughs Agency.
