950 visitors to descend on Greencastle 09.08.12

SOME 950 visitors will descend on Greencastle tomorrow with the arrival of the luxury cruise ship, MS Astor.
The liner's passengers and crew are enjoying a 14 night ‘Lands of Myths & Legends’ tour around Britain and Ireland which departed from Bremerhaven, Germany and will include stop overs at Belfast, Cobh, Dublin and Liverpool.
The ship will offer a range of scheduled tours for passengers taking in Inishowen, the Walled City of Derry and the beautiful Glenveagh National Park. The ship's arrival also coincides with Greencastle Regatta.

Aoife Thomas of Derry Visitor & Convention Bureau said: “The region is buzzing with activity this weekend and passengers will have the opportunity to experience some of the City of Culture’s key events including the Maiden City Festival and the Gasyard Feile.
"Maritime enthusiasts can also enjoy the Greencastle Regatta whilst they are here."
She said Tourism Ireland had identified Germany as a priority market for growth and DVCB in partnership with Foyle Port would undertake a number of sales calls to leading German cruise operators later this year to promote the North West of Ireland as a must see cruise destination for their itineraries.”
The Cruise North West initiative is a partnership between Derry City Council, Derry Visitor & Convention Bureau, Foyle Port and the Loughs Agency aimed at attracting cruise business to the region.
