Isle be...Doagh enjoys happy reunion 20.11.12

THE people of the Isle of Doagh had their own 'Gathering' recently to raise money for the ongoing restoration of the 16th Century O'Doherty Castle at Carrickabraghey.
Residents living on the isle and further afield travelled to the local Famine Village for a get-together and a photograph celebrating their 'snapshot in time'. The community thought it would be the ideal 'curtain raiser' for next year's official Gathering 2013 events including a local reunion.

Men, women and children from Beltra and Magheranaul, Lagahurry and Carrowreagh, Doaghmore, Figart as well as those living further afield took part in the event.
Carrickabraghy Restoration Society chairman, Marius Harkin, said everyone enjoyed the event on October 28.
"The Isle of Doagh Gathering 2012 was a tremendous success not only as a fundraiser for Carrickabraghy Castle but also a great boost to community spirit and inspiration for the 2013 Isle of Doagh School Reunion," he said. Copies of the group photograph are available for purchase at the Strand Hotel, Ballyliffin.
