A shamrock for approved holiday homes 25.06.12

THE quality insurance 'Shamrock' symbol will be provided for the first time to approved holiday home operators in Inishowen as part of a new vision for the sector by Fáilte Ireland.
The tourism body also plans to contact the representatives of the unapproved self-catering sector around Ireland to get them on board.
A large number of Donegal’s self catering operators recently attended the first in a series of ‘Holiday Homes in Ireland’ workshops. The workshops also outlined a new self-assessment categorisation scheme whereby operators can choose to promote their property as 'family friendly', 'walkers welcome' etc. A number of revisions to the existing classification scheme in line with customer demand and a new 5 star option were also unveiled.
Some of the representatives who attended a recent Fáilte Ireland self catering seminar in Donegal.
Fáilte Ireland’s head of operations in Donegal, Martina Bromley, said: "If the friendliness of the Irish is the calling card of our tourism industry, then the self catering sector is holding the ace and needs to play it as it markets itself in the future.”
Fáilte Ireland says 70% of holidaymakers using self-catering/holiday homes accommodation stay an average of between 1-8 nights in Ireland. They tour around extensively, having a wide reaching impact on the wider economy.
A campaign will roll out throughout the summer season to promote the sector and new brand.
