Teens enjoy alcohol-free festival

DONEGAL Foróige members
were among the thousands of teenagers who travelled
across Ireland for a major drink and drugs-free
outdoor music festival last Saturday.
Foróige Hype Fest 2012 has been described as the
'Electric Picnic for younger teenagers'.
Roy Seven and The Kanyu Tree were among the many
bands who performed on the main stage.
The non-alcohol event in Longford, was as "a huge
success", according to festival organiser Ruth
McGarry Quinn;
"Foróige Hype Fest 2012 gave 3,000 young people a
fantastic festival experience in a drug and
alcohol-free environment. I'd like to say thanks to
the 800 Foróige volunteers who ensured that the day
went off without a hitch. The feedback from the
young people has been superb," she said. |

Foróige is Ireland's
largest youth organisation and currently works with
almost 57,000 young people. More than 3,000 12 to
18-year-olds descended onto the grounds of Longford
Rugby Club for the festival which also featured a
huge disco tent, a karaoke area, a movie zone and an
inflatable theme park.
Money raised from the event is going towards the
development of a new premises to house the Foróige
Attic Youth Café in Longford town. |
