Winning start to married life 28.10.12

A LUCKY local bride started her first day of married life today with a new name and €32,700 in the bank.
Thirty-four year old Mary Hamdam (nee O'Sullivan) from Shrove, Greencastle, was stunned when she was picked to appear on Winning Streak on the same day as her wedding to Eoin (39). As all their nearest and dearest were celebrating their nuptials in Co Donegal, it fell to a friend's daughter, student optomotrist Ciara Ní Chleirigh (21) from Blackrock, Co Dublin, to take Mary's seat on the show.
Newly-weds Mary and Eoin Hamdam begin married life together with a Winning Streak windfall of €32,700.
The happy couple woke up in their marital suite at the Redcastle Hotel this morning beaming after a wonderful wedding and the knowledge they are €32,700 better off.
"We are just delighted. The wedding went perfectly and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Watching Winning Streak half way through was great craic altogether," beamed Mary.
“Ciara was great on the show – no bother to her at all. She did very well for us.”
Her delighted husband, Eoin, from Omagh, Co Tyrone, admitted that not many couples begin married life financially better off than before their big wedding splurge.
"It certainly doesn't happen every day," he said. "We were having such a fantastic day that we nearly forgot about the Winning Streak until it was nearly time for it to be on. “The show was recorded earlier in the day and we could have found out what Ciara won but we wanted to keep it a surprise and watch it with everyone else," he added.
Special needs assistant Mary and IT specialist Eoin have been together for nearly five years and share a rented home in Blackrock, Co Dublin. The couple now plan to put the winnings towards buying a house. The Hamdams continued their celebrations with family and friends today before they fly off to Budapest on honeymoon on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the couple admitted that no jackpot win could ever match their happiness as they begin their new life together. “I’m a very, very lucky man,” beamed Eoin.
