€2,500 raised by Men's Shed dance

A charity fundraising
dance hosted by Inishowen's Men's Shed project has
raised more than €2,500 for charity.
The event was held in the Malin Hotel on Saturday
with The Glen Band calling the tunes for free on the
night. The event's proceeds will go to the Funny
Feet Fund, Our lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin
and the Men’s Shed, Carn. |

The dance also
highlighted the success of the Men's Shed project
locally. Carn member, Philip Doherty, said:
“Over the last couple of years following the
collapse of the construction sector, a lot of men in
Inishowen found themselves, almost overnight, out of
work with little or nothing to do.
"This project is to try to get men involved in
something worthwhile again. Since we first met in
February this year we have had a great response from
men in the area and have secured a workshop at the
old Co-op shop, Moville Road, Carn.
Denise McCool from the Inishowen Development
Partnership said the project gave men in Carn and
the surrounding Inishowen area "an opportunity to
use the many skills and talents that they have".
Men's Shed member Gerard McCarron said the local
community showed great support for their fundraising
efforts.
A raffle on the night with first prize of 'a load of
turf’ went to Susie Harkin, Malin; second prize of a
wheelbarrow planter went to Conor Doherty (Barr),
Carndonagh and third prize of a bird house was won
by Conor McLaughlin (F), Glengad. |
