Swilly Hotel gutted in blaze 22.08.12

THE derelict Swilly Hotel at Buncrana's Shore Front has been gutted in an overnight fire. Teams of fire-fighters tackled the blaze throughout the early hours of this morning. Crews remain at the scene this morning to ensure the building is made safe. Gardaí are investigating the blaze and the area has been sealed off for a technical examination.
The fire rages at the derelict Swilly Hotel overnight.
The disused 19th century hotel lies close to neighbouring houses at Swilly Terrace and traffic diversions are in place. The ferry at Buncrana Pier will not undertake any sailings today until the road has reopened. Nobody was hurt in the fire but locals will be nostalgic for the loss of one of the town's best known landmarks.
