Buncrana centre goes Dutch

THE Buncrana Youth Drop in Centre was this week the
unexpected beneficiary of the generosity of a Dutch
company.
The centre this week received a cheque for €1,500
from a Netherlands company who were impressed when
they heard about the work being carried out by the
group.
Ruth Garvey Williams of the Drop in Centre said that
she was ‘delighted’ with the cheque that came ‘out
of the blue.’
She said: “This is a great boost for the drop in
centre and will help towards projects and equipment.
We had no idea we were going to receive this cheque
and everyone at the centre is delighted.
“We are a voluntary group and people are used to
working for free so to receive this sort of money
was a great boost.“This cheque came about due to the
efforts of a man who used to live in Buncrana.
“Hans De Boer lived in Buncrana for a while but now
works for the Brink Groep in Holland.
“Hans was here recently and had called into the
centre to see the work that we do here.
“He was obviously impressed and when he went back to
Holland he mentioned this work to his company and
they sent us the cheque.” |

Ruth Garvey Williams
said that the decision on what to do with the money
would depend on the youth in the centre.
She added: “We have a youth forum in the centre and
so the young people themselves will sit down and
decide what we will use the money for.
“In these times when funding has been cut off from
all sorts of sources it is great to get this sort of
funding out of the blue. So we will invest this
money in the centre.
“It is great in the dark days of January to get this
sort of money when you are least expecting it.” |
