Humpback whales showcase Wild Atlantic Way 06.01.15

TOURISM along the Wild Atlantic Way could be set for a boost as gigantic humpback whales filmed last summer feature tonight on popular BBC 1 magazine programme 'The One Show'.
The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) teamed up with the BBC's Natural History Unit to record the rare mammals last August as they breached waters off West Kerry. IWDG sightings officer Pádraig Whooley said the captured scenes would showcase the huge potential of Ireland's marine wildlife to attract visitors.

"We hope that this footage will encourage some funding from tourism agencies or companies who see the enormous potential for using iconic and rare species like humpback whales to showcase the very best of Ireland's marine wildlife along our Wild Atlantic Way," he said in an IWDG blog post. The Wild Atlantic Way incorporates many great locations in Co Donegal including Inishowen. Malin Head tourism received a big boost during last summer's heatwave as visitors were treated almost daily to spectacular displays by beautiful dolphins.
'Humpback Heaven' with wildlife presenter Mike Dilger, will feature on 'The One Show' tonight, Tuesday, January 6, from 7pm.
