Two Blue Flags for Inishowen 03.06.26

DONEGAL has been awarded 11 Blue Flags for beaches and marinas in 2026, placing it second only to Kerry, which received 14. In Inishowen, Culdaff and Stroove beaches again received the internationally recognised award.
Culdaff beach received the Blue Flag award for 2026.
The Donegal beaches awarded Blue Flag status for 2026 are Bundoran, Rossnowlagh, Murvagh, Fintra, Narin/Portnoo, An Charraig Fhinn (Carrickfinn), Killahoey, Marblehill, Na Dúnaibh (Downings), Culdaff and Stroove, together with Rathmullan Marina.

In addition, Dooey, Magheroarty, Drumnatinney, Ballyheirnan and Port Arthur have each received Green Coast Awards for 2026, further highlighting the quality and appeal of Donegal’s coastal offering.

While Portsalon (Ballymastocker) beach was not included in this year’s Blue Flag awards, Donegal County Council is committed to supporting a strong application for the return of its Blue Flag status for the 2027 bathing season.

Lifeguards are in place on all Blue Flag beaches and will also be deployed at Rathmullan and Portsalon beaches for the bathing season from 1st June to 15th September.

All Blue Flag beaches in Donegal are currently wheelchair accessible, and beach wheelchairs are available for public use at each location.

Everyone is encouraged to enjoy our award-winning beaches in a safe, respectful and sustainable way. Beach users are reminded to take care in and around the water and to follow all water safety advice. Visitors are also encouraged to leave no trace on our beaches other than footprints. Where bins are provided, please use them; otherwise, take your waste home and dispose of it responsibly.
