PORTALEEN Pier in Glengad
was officially re-opened at an event on the pier, on
Friday 1st May, following the completion of extensive
improvement works, marking a new chapter for the local
community and its storied fishing tradition.
Speaking at the event, Timmy Dooley T.D., Minister of
State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the
Marine with responsibility for Fisheries, highlighted
the importance of the facility to the local community:
“This facility has supported a strong fishing tradition
in the community for generations and it is essential
that we continue to invest in infrastructure like this
to ensure that tradition can continue safely and
sustainably into the future." |

Minister of State with responsibility for Sport and
Postal Policy, who played a central role in the
allocation of funding for the works during his time as
Minister in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the
Marine said that “the rejuvenation of Portaleen Pier is
an investment in the future of Glengad, the wider
Inishowen Penninsula and its fishing community. It is
wonderful to see the local economy supported through
modern infrastructure, ensuring safety and opportunity
for generations to come.”
The celebration event marked a significant achievement
for Glengad and sets a strong foundation for its
enduring fishing heritage. |
