Burglaries prompt more night patrols 14.05.10

GARDAI in Buncrana are investigating the theft of three cars in Muff and Shroove and have appealed to the public for help in locating them.
Two vehicles were stolen in Muff in the early hours of Saturday, May 8, one from Ard Bán and the other from the Whitehill estate, while a vehicle stolen in Shroove on April 30 has still not been recovered.
Superintendent William Johnston said burglars entered homes, took the car keys and then made off in the family cars.
“Recovering the vehicles will help us greatly in dealing with this criminality in the east Inishowen area,” Supt Johnston said, confirming that additional night time Garda patrols have been put in place to prevent further criminality in the area.
The cars stolen in Muff were a beige coloured Mini Cooper First, registration SUI 5583, and a red Vauxhall Cavalier, registration SJI 9136.
“We’re appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Muff area on Friday night/Saturday morning to get in contact with Buncrana Garda station on 07493 20540,” Supt Johnston said.
“Those vehicles could be parked up somewhere in Inishowen or Derry city and we’re also appealing to anyone who has noticed any cars fitting this description to contact either the Garda or PSNI. People should not approach the vehicles themselves, but they should contact the authorities immediately. No matter how insignificant it may appear, all reports will be taken seriously.
“There’s a suggestion that the thefts took place when the burglars entered the house through unlocked windows or doors, and I would appeal to householders be security conscious and ensure their home is securely locked at night.”
Gardaí are also investigating the theft of a silver coloured Ford Focus, registration SUI 1362, from Shroove on April 30.
“This vehicle was also taken in the course of a burglary and we believe it may now be in the Derry area.” (Inishowen Independent)
