Greetings from the dole queue 14.04.10

SINN Féin in Inishowen yesterday launched a postcard telling An Taoiseach Brian Cowen 'Greetings from the dole queue'.
Cllr Pádraig MacLochlainn and colleagues including Senator Pearse Doherty launched the campaign to urge the Government to take action on youth unemployment in the county.
They want people to sign their name on the new postcards that are addressed to the Taoiseach.
Latest national figures show there are nearly 5,000 young people under 25 out of work in Donegal.
The new SF postcard reads: “I want to work! I don’t want to be on the dole. I don’t want to emigrate. I am unemployed and I need a job. I want to put my skills and education to work. You need to act now to create jobs for the unemployed. Doing nothing just isn’t good enough.”
Senator Doherty said Sinn Féin had published proposals that would get 50,000 people under 25 off the dole immediately and create jobs in the years ahead.
Pictured yesterday at the launch of Sinn Féin's new postcard campaign are from left, Councillor Gerry McMonagle, Councillor Marie-Therese Gallagher, Councillor Pádraig MacLochlainn, Senator Pearse Doherty, Councillor Cora Harvey, Councillor Mick Quinn and Udarás na Gaeltachta representative Gráinne MhicGéidigh.
"The proposals include a specific youth jobs fund, measures to facilitate self employment and a specific focus on growth sectors such as digital media, tourism, green jobs and agri-food," said Senator Doherty.
“Every one of the almost 5,000 unemployed young people in Donegal has something to offer. They do not want to be on the dole. We need a strategy that will enable these young people to put to use the skills they have learned and to play their part in getting the economy back on track."
Sinn Féin hit out at the coalition Government saying it had "done nothing by way of implementing a strategy for job creation". The party slated the recent social welfare cuts which it said were "designed to push young people into jobs and courses which simply do not exist". "If we work together we can send a message to the Government – doing nothing isn’t good enough - jobs for Donegal now," added Senator Doherty.
