Funding for family support groups 27.01.10

VOLUNTARY groups providing family counselling services in Inishowen have been urged to apply straight away for new funding.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney said the closing date for applications for funding from the Family Support Agency was February 12, 2010.
"Groups in Donegal are providing a very valuable service down the years as this funding is used to help people deal with difficulties they are experiencing in their relationships, to help children whose lives have been affected by parental separation and to support families who have experienced the death of a family member,” said Senator Keaveney.
Nationally, more than €11.3 million was allocated to almost 600 voluntary and community groups nationwide under last year's cheme. A similar amount is being made available this year.
Senator Keaveney added: "This scheme covers marriage counselling; marriage preparation courses; child counselling services (in relation to parental separation) and bereavement counselling and support. These are all real issues for many individuals and families.
Interventions can be extremely important for the shape of the lives that are touched."
The Family Support Agency has issued application forms and information leaflets to almost 750 voluntary and community organisations nationwide. However, any organisation that did not get notification but who feel they may qualify for a grant should contact the agency immediately for more information, said Senator Keaveney.
Application forms and further information are available from the Family Support Agency, St Stephen's Green House, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2 or you can visit www.fsa.ie or telephone 01 611 4100.
