Firearm accused granted bail

A man charged with the unlawful possession of a
handgun and ammunition in Inishowen on Easter Monday
yesterday indicated he intended to plead guilty to
the offence.
Car salesman John Moran, 52, of Serpentine Avenue,
Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, appeared at Buncrana
District Court yesterday charged in connection with
an incident in which gardai were allegedly
threatened with a revolver as they broke up a row
outside a rural pub.
The charge related to a fracas between two groups
of people outside the Orchard Bar, Gleneely,
Carndonagh, around 12.30am on April 5. |
The accused was
yesterday released from custody on his own bond of
15,000 euro cash and an independent surety of 10,000
euro. The independent surety was provided by Philip
Bonner of Portaleen, Malin.

to gardai. Judge Seamus
Hughes agreed to allow the accused reside and work
in the North during the week. However, as part of
his bail conditions, he was ordered to return to his
Co Donegal holiday home every weekend and sign on at
Buncrana Garda Station on Saturdays and Sundays.
Judge Hughes also agreed to the defendant’s request
to have his passport returned for a planned holiday
from May 7 until May 12.
Defence solicitor Paudge Dorrian told the court his
client intended to enter a guilty plea to the
charge. Inspector David Kelly said he awaited the
Director of Public Prosecution’s directions on the
case but that further charges may be brought.
Judge Hughes adjourned the case to Carndonagh
District Court on June 15. |
