Fisherman nets €16,000 for charity

VETERAN fisherman
Michael Cavanagh recently handed over a cheque for
€1,287 to the Foyle Hospice.
The money was the final charity proceeds from his
top-selling CD 'Man of the Sea'.
The other beneficiaries of his music, who each
received cheques for €5,048 from Michael last year,
were Greencastle Coast Guard, the Moville branch of
the RNLI and the Donegal Hospice.
This Foyle Hospice donation brings to €16,431 the
total given to charity from the sale of 'Man of the
Sea’. |

Michael who is skipper
and owner of Greencastle fishing vessel Father
McKee, has a new CD out now called ‘Fishermen of
Ireland’. All of the profits from his latest
production will go to the RNLI.
"Two of the songs are based on the experiences of
life as a fisherman in Ireland in the 21st Century.
One is a song about the Princess Victoria which sank
on January 13, 1953 with the loss of 133 lives,"
explained Michael. There are four songs on the new
CD, three of which are Michael's original
