Buncrana ovation for county manager 24.06.10

TRIBUTES were paid at Buncrana Town Council this week to Donegal county manager Michael McLoone who officially retires on July 1.
Speaking after manager’s business was concluded, newly installed mayor, Cllr Padraig MacLochlainn acknowledged Mr McLoone’s four decades of public service.
He said Mr McLoone had made ‘an immense contribution’ in all the posts he had held.
Describing the county manager as ‘one of the greatest visionaries in public service’ in the State, Cllr. MacLochlainn said he had always been at the ‘heart of the process’ of local government.
Cllr MacLochlainn said while the county manager could have ‘played it safe’, he instead always pushed for change and innovation.

The mayor said Mr McLoone had instigated ‘a remarkable transformation’ in local government in the county.
Cllr Lee Tedstone said it had been ‘an absolute pleasure’ to work with the county manager and added that he was respected throughout Ireland.
Cllr Michelle Bradley said she had seen how hard Mr McLoone had worked for the town and the county during his tenure.
Cllr Nicholas Crossan said Mr McLoone had been ‘just what Donegal needed’.
Cllr Peter McLaughlin added:
“Donegal has done well under Mickey McLoone.” The local councillors concluded by giving Mr McLoone a standing ovation.
