Celia awarded Papal Gold

A MOVILLE schoolgirl
has been awarded the Pope John Paul II gold medal
for her voluntary work in the parish and community.
Celia Doherty, 16, picked up the award for her
efforts with the Moville Tidy Towns committee and
for taking part in the Moville Gospel Choir.
She recently picked up her medal and parchment at a
ceremony in the Millennium Forum, Derry, along with
other committed young parishioners in the diocese.
Celia, who is the daughter of Maxine and Phil
Doherty, undertook 20 hours of community work and 20
hours of parish work to qualify for the medal. Her
20 hours of community work were undertaken with the
local tidy towns committee while she sang her way to
20 hours of parish activity with the local choir. |

Celia, who is in fourth
year at Moville Community College, rolled up her
sleeves again on Saturday with other local
youngsters for the big National Spring Clean-Up in
the town. Moville Celtic juniors were also on hand
with the litter pickers and sacks to make sure their
town looked nice for visitors and locals.

plays piano and wants
to study music at third level, said: "I'm so pleased
at getting the gold medal. I would like to thank the
choir and everyone on the tidy towns committee who
helped me including Cllr Mickey Doherty and Marian
McDonald."
Moville Tidy Town chairperson Marian McDonald added:
"Celia is a delightful person who accepts any task
without question. She helped weed the planters on
the square, plant out flowers, painted flower tubs
in addition to regular clean-ups." |
