Repairs for Swan Park path

BUNCRANA Mayor Lee Tedstone has welcomed the news
that a treacherous stretch of path at scenic Swan
Park finally looks set to be repaired.
The hazardous walkway, which is on privately-owned
land with a public right of way, has remained in a
state of disrepair for almost a year and continues
to be impassable to families with children in prams
or buggies
It is also understood that a local man in an
electric wheelchair had to turn back recently
because he couldn’t negotiate his way through the
sharp boulders strewn across the path.
Cllr Tedstone, who no longer uses the path with his
young children, said he has been working tirelessly
on the issue for the past ten months.
“The path has been in a terrible state for some time
but I am now confident that the issue will be
resolved soon. We have received a letter from the
owner of the land, who has given the Council full
permission to fix it,” he said. |

“If there are no
further legal issues I would expect that repair work
may begin as early as later this month.”
Town Engineer Donal Walker confirmed that Buncrana
Town Council had received correspondence from the
owner of the land.
“The document we have received from the land owner
is with our solicitor and, provided everything is in
order, we expect to be in a position to begin
repairs sooner rather than later,” he said.
“It is not Buncrana Town Council’s responsibility to
fix the path but we are more than happy to do so for
the greater good. Swan Park is an amenity we need to
open up and make easily accessible to everyone. It
is a beautiful walk and we are happy to use Council
funds to repair and maintain it.” |
