Dry spell prompts water warning 17.06.10

DONEGAL County Council has appealed to people to conserve water due to the ongoing dry weather and low water levels at the county's lakes. The local authority urged people not to use the mains supply for watering lawns or washing cars and yards, in a bid to avoid shortages in the coming months. People have been urged to turn off taps at home, at work and on the farm.
“Please check for faulty plumbing as dripping taps or running cisterns can account for considerable losses. Any suspected leaks on water mains or wastage should be reported to the county council in your local area office,“ the local authority said in a statement yesterday.
“The co-operation of every community is required if we are to avert water shortages later in the year. Everyone is urged to play their part in conserving this precious resource.
“The council are continually working to eliminate losses and conserve water and have made good progress.
Donegal County Council has urged householders and workplaces to turn off their taps when not in use.
However water conservation is everybody’s business,“ the statement added.
