Go ‘Back to the 80s’ with Scoil Mhuire 02.02.09

REMEMBER when actors became American Presidents, when bubble skirts and blue eye shadow were cool and when Atari computer games were cutting edge technology? From the era that brought the world the Rubik’s Cube and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Scoil Mhuire brings you a fantastic musical in the style of 'Back to the Future, ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ and ‘The Karate Kid’.
Join the graduating class of William Ocean High School as they live through their final senior year. Experience, with them, the fun, heartbreak, the loves and the loneliness of growing up...and all set to the biggest hits of the 1980s.
Set in the USA, ‘Back to the 80s’ tells the story of the senior class of William Ocean High School as remembered by Corey Palmer, who is now 40-something.
The role of the narrator, Corey Palmer Senior, is played by Scoil Mhuire teacher, David Deeney. The hero of the musical, 17 year old Corey Junior, is played by Peter Deeney. He is madly in love with his next door neighbour, the ultra cool Tiffany Houston, played by Katie Shallow. However, she barely notices Corey as she has a major crush on school heart throb, Michael Feldman, played by Matthew Gallanagh.
‘Back to the 80s’ features a nine piece orchestra and is set to an irresistible score of over 20 classic 1980s hits including ‘Footloose’, ‘Time of My life’, ‘Material Girl’, ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ and ‘Walking on Sunshine’.
Scoil Mhuire’s fourth musical is headed up by the same production team that brought you ‘Grease’  (2003), ‘Little Shop of Horrors’
(2005) and ‘Buddy Holly’ (2007). The director is Ms Denise Roper; choreographer, Ms. Tanya Ward and producer, Ms Lorna Barron. The musical runs from Tuesday, 10th February until Friday, 13th February at 8pm nightly. Box office opens on Monday, 2nd February. Telephone 93 20670 from 9am-4pm daily. Seating is limited so early booking is strongly advised.
