RESIDENTS of Mulberry
Avenue can take a bow after scooping the 'Best
Overall Housing Estate' in this year's Buncrana Tidy
Town gardening competition.
Judgeing this year was undertaken by BBC Radio Foyle
gardening expert Gareth Austin who described this
year's competition as "the toughest yet". |

"Although the weather
this year has been challenging for all gardeners the
bar has been truly raised in the overall standards
of gardening throughout the Buncrana area," said
Gareth. The categories in this year's competition
were expanded |

to allow for greater
participation. Patricia Gallagher of the Buncrana
Tidy Towns was delighted with the record number of
entrants in 2009.“Throughout the day Gareth
commented on how full of colour the town was and how
standards from last year have improved," said
Patricia.
"We’re delighted to have had over 70 businesses
taking part and we’re extremely grateful for their
support. Gareth has given us some great ideas on how
we can continue to improve standards for the coming
year too.”
Buncrana scored highly in last year's overall Tidy
Towns competition, even beating last year's eventual
winners Westport in some categories. The local
committee is now hoping for a similarly good showing
this year in the countrywide competition.
