Doherty publishes his expenses 11.09.09

SINN Féin's Senator Pearse Doherty has published a breakdown of his Oireachtas expenses from January to June of this year. He said Sinn Féin TDs and senators would, from now on, publish their expenses every year.
Senator Doherty said: “The public should not be dependent on Freedom of Information requests from the media for access to information such as expenses claimed by elected representatives.

"The Oireachtas, on an annual basis, should publish a full list of all the expenses claimed by each TD and Senator, along with all legislation published, Bill passed, reports produced and any other information that naturally belongs in the public realm," said Senator Doherty.
"Sinn Féin's Oireachtas members are now committed to publishing their expenses on an annual basis." It was recently revealed that Senator Cecilia Keaveney was the highest claimant of expenses since the new Seanad started. She claimed €122,748 over the two years on top of her basic salary
