MEN, women and children around Newtown are brushing up on their catwalk skills ahead of a major fashion show tonight in aid of Newtowncunningham Community Development Initiative (NCDI).
According to Kathleen Burke, most of the locals taking part in tonight's gala event in Letterkenny's Mount Errigal Hotel, took part last year and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
“We didn’t have to do too much coaxing to get them to agree to take part again,” said Kathleen.
She has been busy putting the final touches to organising the show and was delighted to be able to confirm that TV3’s Noel Cunningham has once agreed to act as compere on the night.
“Noel was there as compere last year and was brilliant and we were delighted when he confirmed on Friday that he will be back again this year,” Kathleen said.
The TV3 star will be in the company of some of Newtown’s best-loved models on the night with local celebrities like Rose Coyle, Jean Hannigan, Ada McNutt, Collette McMenamin, Catherine Clarke and Nora Browne all lined up to take part.
Ann McKinley and her two daughters Eithne and Jennifer are also getting set for their walk on the catwalk when fashions from a wide range of stores will be on display.
Local children from the village will also be modelling on the night, while local men won’t be getting away scot free either.
On the catwalk from the village will be Shane Burke, Darren McDaid, Liam McMenamin and Donegal GAA star Brendan Devenney.
According to Kathleen, the funds raised on the night will go towards the funding of the NCDI which operates a number of courses and she explained that while tickets are on sale, anybody who wishes to come along on the night can do so by simply paying at the door.
“Tickets are on sale priced €10 and can be obtained from the NCDI offices, but everybody is more than welcome to come along on the night.
Tonight’s show kicks off at 7.30pm and will feature models showcasing Autumn/Winter collections from stores such as Tempest, Dunnes Stores, Selfridges, Fuse, Menary’s, Clare’s boutique, Paco and The Verve boutique in Donegal Town. Modern Brides from the Carlisle Road in Derry will also have a special showing of wedding dresses.
