Quads threaten Shroove's Blue Flag 28.05.08

AN Inishowen councillor has urged quad bikers to stay away from Shroove beach near Greencastle.
The vehicles are banned on Blue Flag beaches but Cllr. Marian McDonald said a recent spate of quad biking is putting the beach's environmental status at risk.
Shroove's Blue Flag Beach "Shroove will lose its Blue Flag next year if people continue to drive quads on it. Apart from that, they are very disruptive to families who go to the beach for relaxation and for their young children to play," said Cllr. McDonald.
She also outlined a recent incident that was reported to her in which a jeep owner and
his passenger negotiated the vehicle onto Shroove beach and slept in it overnight.
Cllr. McDonald said Shroove was in line for a Beach Management System that would give local Gardai the power to fine vehicle owners and people taking dogs onto the beach without leashes.
