A Buncrana councillor
is angered that a footbridge at Cockhill won't be
installed for children ahead of the new school term.
Sinn Fein member, Cllr. Daren Lalor called on
Donegal County Council to immediately build some
form of pedestrian safety measures at the Cockhill
Bridge, Buncrana, following the allocation of new
houses to 40 families.
"Since the decision was taken by council officials
to allocate the houses at Dun Na nLarlai (Earls
Fort), Tullyarvan, there has been much discussion
regarding pedestrian safety at the Cockhill Bridge,"
said Cllr. Lalor.
"The elected members of the town council were
assured that a pedestrian footbridge would be in
place before the start of the new school term. Then
at the July monthly meeting, last week, we were
informed that the temporary footbridge would now
take approximately four to six months to be
constructed."
Cllr. Lalor said he hoped the delay would not result
in an accident as children attend St. Oran's
National School in the new school year.
"Unfortunately, it may be the end of the year before
the footbridge can be constructed. That is why it is
now of paramount importance that Donegal County
Council immediately installs some form of safety
measures at this location.
"Residents and particularly children's safety should
be the only concern pressing with the Council at
this time," he added. |
