Jansu decision expected today 19.06.07

A decision is expected today on the controversial planning application to redevelop the former Fruit of the Loom site at Buncrana's Shore Front.
The former Fruit of the Loom site at Shore Front. An Bord Pleanala, the planning appeals body, is due to rule on Jansu Ltd's proposal to convert the former factory into a multi-million euro complex comprising luxury apartments, retail units, offices and a car park.
The application sparked controversy last year after strong opposition to the
proposal from the Shore Front Residents' Association whose objection centred chiefly on concerns the area would not be able to cope with the increased traffic volumes the proposed complex would create.
A majority vote by Buncrana Town Council, rejected an application to rezone the area in the town plan from industrial to commercial. However, the necessary rezoning for the Jansu development to go ahead has since taken place.
All concerned parties will watch closely today, to see what the planning appeals body's decision will be.
