New Garda Inspector for Buncrana 15.06.07

Buncrana has a new Garda second-in-command in the guise of Inspector Donal Sweeney.
Garda Inspector Sweeney took up his post this week at the Inishowen District Headquarters following the departure of Garda Inspector Jody Crowe, who has taken up a new post in Lucan, Dublin.
Buncrana District Court yesterday, was the first professional outing locally for the new inspector. The 47- year old who is married with a family and who was promoted from sergeant last month, was introduced to the court by Buncrana Superintendent Jimmy Coen.
Supt. Coen said he had previously served with Inspector Sweeney in the Cavan-Monaghan Division and he looked forward to working with him again.
Inspector Sweeney, originally from Athlone, Co. Westmeath, was also welcomed to the district by solicitor Ciaran MacLochlainn, speaking on behalf of his legal colleagues.
Mr. MacLochlainn revealed that Inspector Sweeney was a second-generation Donegal man in that his father hailed from Milford. "We're delighted to welcome him back to Donegal and while we will try to take advantage of him in court," smiled Mr. MacLochlainn, "we wish him well in his new job". Judge Zaidan echoed the views expressed. "I wish you well in your new post. It's good to see the return of the prodigal son," he said. Inspector Sweeney thanked the speakers for their kind wishes. "I look forward to working here," he said.
